“My name is Viktor Konstantinov, Polje is my main alias, under which I publish my music and perform in the format of electronic DAW-less live or as a DJ since 2017. I am a self-taught musician. In my work I combine elements from different genres: kraut rock, jazz, hip-hop, ambient, post-punk and others. I also consider myself as a member of the Odesa electronic music scene. My working environment is a home studio in Odesa; from the instruments I use a groovebox, sampler, synthesizers, guitars, clarinet, vocals, field recordings, fragments of audiobooks, etc. In the fall of 2022, I founded a label Liky Pid Nohamy.”
Polje is an act of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the EU and Pro Helvetia.
“The mix features music made by Ukrainian artists, primarily contemporary and currently active, except for the opening track, “Morning” by People Romantics, recorded in 1992. While most of the tracks were released on my label Liky Pid Nohamy or independently by the artists, the labels Pep Gaffe, 20ft Records, and kulturamedialna deserve special mention. However, this mix does not represent any particular scene, label or style; rather it is a compilation of music created by artists with whom I feel a certain affinity in terms of the nature of sound and the originality of the creative act. This nature, I believe, exists between genres, musical traditions and artistic methods, guided by the desire for exploration in the first place.”
